The state tree of Texas, the Pecan tree, is a popular shade tree and produces edible pecans. A mature tree will stand 60-80 feet tall, growing 1-2 feet per year. The best soil for Pecan trees is well-drained loams, as these soils have sandy textures with adequate amounts of organic matter. (Average pH of 6.0-6.5).
